Early Breakfast and take your packed lunch from the lodge. Here is the Gorilla Gear that you will need: A daypack, packed lunch from the lodge plus some snacks such as granola bars. You will need three liters of water to keep hydrated on the trek.
Wear long trousers, gardening gloves for pulling yourself up on branches, long-sleeved shirt. Waterproof boots, thick socks. Tuck the pants into the socks for extra protection.
Be sure to wear a hat for protection against the sun. Put a rain jacket into your backpack. Use a good insect repellent to keep the flies away. There are not many mosquitoes at this elevation. We also recommend unscented sunscreen to protect against the midday sun.
Why wear such things as long trousers and longsleeved instead of shorts and tank-tops. It is for your protection. You will find that the rangers on your trek will not be wearing shorts. There are nettles, thorns, brush, and bushes that cause discomfort. This is not a hot and humid forest due to its elevations, much of the forest is 2,000 meters above sea-level. The morning is chilly, with temperatures around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. Gorilla Wear we recommend will keep you comfortable.
We provide you with bottled water, a walking stick, and the services of a porter that can assist you on the trail and when there is no trail. A moderate level of fitness is required. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is made up of ridges and valleys.
The gorilla habituation experience begins with an orientation where you are told as to how to conduct yourself on the trek. This is an all-day trek which includes four-hours with a gorilla family. The total trek can last up to eight hours. Usually, the trek is over in the late afternoon.
You are a participant in the habituation process. There is a maximum of four participants, plus rangers and porters. The Gorilla Habituation Experience is perfect for photographers since you have maximum time fo get some great photos.
You will learn a lot about the habits and ways about the Gorillas. We suggest that you know before you go. Understand what is involved, get the right gear for the day, and more.
You will not need Binoculars since you are up close to the Gorillas, unlike a game drive or savannah nature walk.
