From the Buhoma Area, it is a 1 1/2-hour drive to the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth Park. Here you take a Game Drive. An Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger will join us in the Vehicle.
The Safari Vehicle has a pop-up roof for better game viewing. You will see Tree Climbing Lions and leopards, herds of elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kob and Topi Antelopes.
After the game drive, it is Lunch at the Savanna Resort.
We continue to the Mweya area of Queen Elizabeth Park.
Before checking into Enganzi Game Lodge, we take the 27-kilometer explosion crater drive. It is the most scenic drive in Uganda. It takes you to the highest point in Queen Elizabeth Park.
The timing and lighting are just right for you to get some great pictures during the late afternoon.
You will see the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon. The Explosion craters shaped much of the park. Some are lakes filled with water, others containing sulfur. A few are covered by savannah grass or forest.
The drive is so scenic that National Geographic featured a picture of one of the explosion craters. Beyond the craters, you have views of the Western Rift escarpment. Below is the Savannah and Lake George, and Lake Edward connected by the Kazinga Channel.

Day 4 – Queen Elizabeth Park:
Breakfast, and we drive to the Kyambura Gorge for Chimpanzee Tracking. The Kyambura Gorge is part of the Western Rift, and as you come near it, you will find this massive gash in the Savannah, that gash in the Kyambura Gorge, part of the Western Rift.
After an orientation, you go out with guides and trackers to track our closest cousins, the chimpanzees.
Like the gorillas, they are habituated, which means that they are used to human beings and do not scamper off when we show up in their area.
Again, like with Gorilla Tracking, chimpanzee tracking is another one of a kind encounter.
One hour with the chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge. Another fantastic experience in your five days on Safari in the Pearl of Africa.
Option: Chimpanzee Trekking can be done in nearby Kalinzu Forest, where the chances of spotting chimpanzees are much higher. Japanese Primate Researchers have been habituating the chimpanzees for over 20 years. In recent times, Chimpanzees became iffier in Kyambura Gorge, causing many of our clients to trek chimpanzees in Kalinzu Forest.
Afternoon a wildlife boat safari on Kazinga Channel at 3 pm. The boat will be moving along the banks of the channel toward Lake Edward. You will see the largest concentration of hippos in Africa. There are hundreds of birds, and usually, a bird watcher will see over 40 species of birds on the two-hour boat safari. There are herds of elephants coming down to the water. Even more massive herds during the dry season. Buffalo herds and late in the afternoon. You find an occasional predator coming to water before going out on a night’s hunt.
The boat safari is a slow-moving affair. You get the best opportunities for taking pictures – the boat safari is one of the highlights of your visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is a tapestry of natural wonders that you will find most surprising.
