Going On Safari While your Luggage is Lost – Missing – Delayed – Here is something that will help you to continue your Safari as your airline finds and returns your luggage.
We will help in any way that we can to bring your luggage to you as we retrieve it from the Airline at Entebbe or Kigali Airport.
Lost, Missing, Delayed Luggage is rare, but it does happen from time to time, and we have had it happen to a few clients of ours.
The Safari is locked into place. The Permits for Gorilla Trekking cannot be changed. If your luggage is lost or delayed,, we know how to make the Safari go on.

Here you are standing by luggage carousel with bags rolling in, except yours. The reality of what every traveler fears have taken place – missing, lost, delayed luggage.
Tomorrow you are scheduled to head out toward either Volcanoes National Park or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for Gorilla Trekking. Your daypack, light rain jacket, boots, long-sleeved shirt, trousers, heavy trousers are not with you, but in the lost, missing, and delayed luggage and unlike in the West, the next flight where your luggage could be sent on is not a few hours later. Still, the next day, or a few days later – your safari in Africa is now clouded by doom and gloom.
Here are some ways you can prepare for lost luggage going on safari:
- Maximize carry-on luggage using a daypack – a carry-on suitcase or duffel bag.
- Pack the things you will need for two days of your safari – including all electronics, cameras, phones, iPad.
- On Board the PlaneWear Trousers – long-sleeved Shirt, Hat, Hiking Boots and Socks
It is not about Fashion on the plane, it about your Safari. Your Safari is the priority and goal.
We will do all we can to claim your luggage on arrivals and ship to the lodge where you will be. It can take up to 24, depending on your location. In case you have not prepared by doing the above, there is Plan B.
We take you to a market such as Owino, and you can buy the clothing that you will need, including shoes for about 50 USD. They will be 2nd hand clothing. We will get them washed and ironed for you. We will take you to buy new undergarments and underwear, new socks.
Due to Gorilla and Chimpanzee Permits, we are locked into a schedule that is not changeable, but during the rarest of times, Lodges may be easier to change. Still, it depends on the availability that they have.
Airline Compensation:
Be sure to make claims for any compensation for costs that you incurred with the airline carrier that you used. Different airlines have different procedures, make your claim immediately. You will need receipts in most cases.
Check your various insurance policies, including the Travel Insurance Policy that you have taken out for this trip.
Claims must typically be filed within seven days of the incident.
You can further pursue your claim with proper government agencies in your country of Origin.
