It is the only up-market Lodge in the Rushaga Area. It has an excellent track record with our clients who have stayed here since its opening. The Deluxe Cottages are especially lovely with fireplace a sitting area where you can relax after trekking.
There is Family Cottage here that sleeps 4 and can be used by any group of 4 and has two bedrooms and a joined sitting area where you relax after trekking.

An early Breakfast – the right equipment and clothing for your Trek. Further Trekking Information that will make this day more comfortable is found here.
Gorilla Wear: We suggest a day pack, packed lunch from the lodge, two liters of water, long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, hat, boots, thick socks, and sturdy gardening gloves. All this is not to make a fashion statement but for your protection against nettles, thorns, brush.
Tuck your trousers into the socks for extra protection against fire ants and exposed skin from touching nettles that abound here.
We supply you with bottled water, a walking stick, and a porter. One porter is needed for two people. The porter is an added plus since they assist you on the at times challenging trek.
Meet the researchers, trackers and guides and head for the location of your gorilla family group being habituated and your four hours in their presence and learning their ways.
With the trek in and trek out plus the 4-hour Gorilla Habituation Experience, this becomes an all-day trek. The advantage is that you see the Gorillas with only 4 participants, but that you learn about the Gorillas habits and ways from the Gorillas and the Researchers. Besides, you are a participant in the habituation process itself and not just an observer as on the Gorilla Trek.
Physical Fitness for the Gorilla Habituation: You need to be moderately fit for this trek. There are ridges and valleys, and that can wear one out.
Return to the trailhead, and it is back to the lodge.
This gives you all that you need to know about the Gorilla Habituation Experience, including what to wear and bring while on your trek.
Note: The Gorilla Habituation Experience has few permits, availability must be established well in advance – a range of dates should be given to with which to work me for us to secure the permits for you. A Private Trek just for you can be arranged where it only you and rangers at extra cost.
Meal Plan: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Flight time is rather short 20 minutes. Another driver greets you at the Kasese Airstrip and continues to the lodge.
Lunch
Afternoon – Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary Hike. This is a guided 3-hour hike through a Jungle Swamp, much of it is on planks that act like a boardwalk above the swamp. Your experienced guide is from the local community that has maintained the Wetlands for many years with thousands visiting each year.
During the Afternoon, you might spot Chimpanzees, Colobus Monkeys, also baboons. The area is well-known for birds, the chief attraction is the Blue Turaco.
When it comes to Mammals, you can see otters, bush pigs, mongoose, and the rare Sitatunga Antelope, to name a few.
Dinner
Optional: Take the Nocturnal Forest Walk where you see the creatures of the night such as pottos and bush babies with spotlights, plus other creatures of the Night. Drive time to Kibale Forest must be considered and dinner arrangements. Crater Lake Safari Lodge is closer than Papaya Lake Resort.

Habituation teaches the Chimpanzees to allow humans in their presence. A chimp community can number over 100 members. Chimpanzees live in a relational social structure, and the alpha males defend against other chimpanzees trying to move into the territory.
Females are part of smaller family groups and nurture the young. Way before you see the chimpanzees, you will hear their hooting calls in the distance. Soon you come upon them and spend one hour with them observing their ways and habits. Usually, you might see 4 to 6 primates here, many of the birds, the butterflies, mammals found here and of course the forest itself with its vegetation that is unique. On the all-day habituation, you will see a lot more than on a trek.
You must wear the right clothing and shoes and have at least 3 liters of water with you, plus a packed lunch
Meal Plan: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner
