Murchison Falls National Park is the largest park in Uganda and is located in the northwestern part of the country. It seemingly sprawls inland from the shores of Lake Albert around the Victoria Nile. It derives its name from the Murchison Falls Waterfall, the most powerful waterfall in the World. It is where the mighty River Nile explodes through a narrow gorge and flows down to become a placid river whose banks are patronized by hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, and buffaloes. The vegetation is mainly savannah, riverine forest, and woodland. The Wildlife found here includes; Lions, Leopards, elephants, the endangered Rothschild Giraffes, buffaloes, hartebeests, oribis, Uganda kobs, chimpanzees and many bird species including the rare Shoebill Stork.
Murchison Fall Park is Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area. It hosts 76 species of mammals and 451 bird species. It is the best all-around Wildlife Park with easy access from Kampala.
