When is the Best Time to visit Kidepo Valley National Park in the Karamoja region of Uganda? Safaris take place to Kidepo Valley Park around the year, there are however reasons you may pick a month that may be best for you. The Kidepo Valley and the Karamoja Region in northeastern Uganda is a very arid region of Uganda. It can get hot here during some of the dry season months. The rivers, creeks, and parks run dry and in some cases, all you have is a bed of sand. The watering holes that remain become an attraction to wildlife and you have an easier time to see them.
The Rainy Season, on the other hand, brings about a rebirth of the region with fresh savanna grass, new life springs forth and flowers bloom, water is in relative abundance, you might even spot the rare mini-Nile Crocodile that is found here. Animals spread out throughout the park, the game tracks become a bit harder to drive after the rain but are doable.

The Best Time to visit Kidepo Valley National Park is during the long dry season of the year in Kidepo Valley Park is from September to March. It can reach 90 degrees plus here. One reason that we take early morning game drives and then in the late afternoon. The same applies to Nature walks and Hikes.
The ideal weather is during the months of September, October and November. While the hottest months in Karamoja regions, which includes Kidepo Valley park from December to February.
Please be advised that there are no lodges with air conditioning. This does not deter those who come here to see remote Africa, Africa as it was 50 years ago when it comes to lifestyle and the people such as the Karamojong and Ik Tribes which are near the Park.
Dry Season means fewer mosquitoes in Kidepo Valley Park it is also the best time to see migratory birds from November to March.
T he Rainy Season Months in Kidepo Valley Park – Karamoja:
The Rainy or Wet Season is not as you might imagine it to be. The rains come at night and during the predawn hours of the day. Normally the sun comes out and dries a lot of the surface water. Game Tracks can stay muddy in places and getting here becomes a bit tougher, definitely not recommended for those planning a self-drive safari in Uganda.
