Boomu Village is one of those unique off-of-the-beath path experiences that remain in Uganda today. The Village is mostly bypassed but can be easily accessed on your visit to Murchison Falls National Park or Budongo Forest.

Boomu – Experience an African Village in Uganda. It is a community tourism project offering bandas (African Style Huts), camping, showers, and toilets. It is located on the road to Murchison Falls National Park, just a few hundred yards ahead of the park entrance, 8 kilometers from the Kaniyo Pabidi chimpanzee eco-tourist viewing site in Budongo Forest.
The Community is home to many trees, shrubs, flowers, birds, and butterflies—all giving Boomu Village a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The Village offers you the best of both worlds, a sense of seclusion, and at the same time, accessibility.
Boomu – Experience an African Village in Uganda with the Boomu Women’s Group (there are actually some men who belong to the group) at Kigaragara Village near Murchison Falls National Park and Budongo Forest allow visitors to Uganda a look at life in an African Village. Not in some touristy way, but in the authentic way it is, the way that they live with their families at Kigaragara Village.
There is a variety of bandas, singles, doubles, twins, and one larger space for accommodating groups. Some bandas have lighting from solar power, and in the event of power outages, we provide lanterns. One Banda has been left as a traditional mud banda. There are a campground and a campfire pit where people gather at night for storytelling times.
There are open-air showers, composting toilets, and hot water that can be supplied in a jerry can on request. Boomu is located in well maintained enclosed grounds. The site is filled with many trees, including fruit trees, shrubs, and flowers.
There are many butterflies and birds, including our own colony of weavers, which contain both Black Headed Weavers and Vieillot’s black weaver. We are surrounded by fields and overlooked by a hill. This makes Boomu a tranquil place to relax, away from the tourist trail.
It is from the garden to the stove and to your plate, and you are involved in the process from beginning to end. Boomu means “together,” and by the time you leave here, you will have more of an understanding that it does “take a village working together” to survive and thrive in Africa. On a side note – usually, villagers in Uganda eat with their hands, you wash your hands before and after, but at Boomu, you are offered the optional fork.
Most meals are traditional Ugandan ones – even though you might have cooked, be sure to thank the host, “thank you for cooking.” If you do want a more Western Meal, it can be prepared for you, and Vegetarians and Vegans can be readily accommodated. Drinks such as Bottled Water, Sodas, and Beer are available.
Boomu-Experience an African Village in Uganda: If you want that real African Hut like feeling, one of the Banda was created as a traditional mud hut, and you can stay there. At night there is a campfire and a sharing of stories as in the days of old since African History and Traditions were not written. Still, they were woven into stories that were handed down from generation to generation.
At Boomu – Experience an African Village in Uganda where you take a guided walk, hear tales of old from the elders, as well as the Banyoro People courtship rituals and birth celebrations.
Get a firsthand understanding of the obstacles and difficulties that villagers face—barriers such as the lack of education—also, the lack of infrastructures such as electricity or running water, the population growth. You will hear how it has an impact on land and pressure for more food ( average Ugandan woman gives birth to 6.7 children in her life). Learn by seeing traditional farming methods and how those crops are processed.
Boomu Women’s group creates some beautiful bedspreads and other woven products, dyed with colors collected from nature around the Village. You can see some beautiful basket weaving done and buy a few items that will keep the memories coming of your stay of Boomu Women’s group, which taught you what it means to be and work “together.”
