Getting to Kidepo Valley National Park by Air or By Vehicle
Getting to Kidepo Valley National Park takes a bit more effort but is well worth it. We can arrange a Fly-In Safari for you with the regional Aerolink Airline. Flying in East Africa costs more than flying in Western Country, however many of clients prefer the convenience.
Driving to Kidepo Valley Park takes time. A straight one-day drive to Kidepo Valley Park can take up to 12 hours. We like to break up the journey by breaking it up and staying one night in the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you can track Rhinos.
Kidepo Valley Park has received more awards and accolades than other Wildlife Parks, yet it remains one of the least visited parks. The reason is a simple one – its remoteness, the bad roads of the past and security. It’s all about getting to the Park that CNN in 2016 names one of the best travel Destinations and in 2015 the third best park in all of Africa. In 2017 the Wanderlust Movement named Kidepo as the best destination in all of Africa.
The roads to Karamoja and Kidepo Valley Park are improving, the area is safe & secure in 2017. New lodges are being built, giving visitors to the area more choices. In our Opinion Kidepo Valley Park is well worth the extra cost of flying or the hours driving here.
Getting to Kidepo Valley National Park -in the remote Karamoja Region
Self-Drive to Kidepo Valley Park – should not be even considered:
Self-Drive Vehicles can be rented in Kampala for those that dare to drive to Kidpo Valley Park. We would a Safari Tour operator such as Kabiza Wilderness Safaris. It will cost you a few dollars more, but we will get you there. You might have a GPS system that the rental company gives you, however you do not know the road conditions, the languages spoken, the cultural ways, where to turn to when you are stuck on a muddy road in the midst of nowhere.
An experience Kidepo Valley Park Tour Operator such as ourselves will get you there including during the rainy seasons. We know Uganda, we know the Karamoja Region of Uganda and we get stuck in the mud, we will not remain there.
Fly-In Safari to Kidepo Valley Park:
Fly to Kidepo Valley Park – it costs more, but many prefer flying from Entebbe Airport to Kidepo Valley Park seeing Uganda from above including the rugged parts of Karamoja.
Stay at Apoka Safari Lodge, see the park, its wildlife and scenery on foot and on game drives. Visit a Karamojong Village meeting the Nomad Warriors of Karamoja before returning to Kampala, or flying to Murchison Falls for more Wildlife Adventures.
Drive to Kidepo Valley Park with Kabiza Wilderness Safaris:
Getting to Kidepo Valley National Park by road can be done in several ways. The most popular route we take – includes one night at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you track the Rhinos on foot and continue to the next day through Gulu and Kigum to Kidepo Valley Park.
The longer and more scenic way – takes in a night at Sipi Falls where you take a memorable hike and then continue to Moroto where we suggest an overnight stop, a hike on Mount Moroto can be arranged, also the newly discovered rock paintings in caves nearby and cultural Manyata Visits to the Karamojong People.
The Parks and places one can combine on the drive to Kidepo Valley Park are Jinja – the Adventure Capital and Mount Elgon and Sipi. On the return journey to Kampala we can also include Murchison Falls National Park with its wildlife and Budongo Forest Chimpanzee Trekking.
