Mgahinga National Park is a small Park with many activities and golden monkey tracking has been one of them for years. Golden Monkeys are not as well-known as
are the Mountain Gorillas or Chimpanzees of Uganda, however, they are all endangered species – there are up to 4000 Golden Monkeys living in the shadows of the Virunga Volcanoes – no accurate census has been taken but it is known that they are not reproducing at a rate that will mean an increase in the population of Golden Monkeys.
The live in the Bamboo Forest zones of the Virunga Volcanoes and you do have to be in reasonable shape to hike up to their habitat which is a most rewarding experience. one of the families that has been habituated which means that they are now used to human beings without scurrying off into the forest when humans approach.
You can spend four hours in the morning or four hours in the afternoon where you will be guided to the bamboo forest by a guide, one thing of note is that the size of your Golden Monkey Habituation group will only be six in number – this is smaller than the size of visitors to the 
Gorilla Groups that have been habituated where 8 can visit one gorilla group each day.
The cost for a Golden Monkey Habituation is only 100 USD plus Park Entrance of 40 USD, which is a lot less either chimpanzee habituation or gorilla tracking making it a most affordable experience and include the Park Entrance fee.
It is best to dress right for this Golden Monkey habituation Experience, light-hiking boots, jeans, long-sleeved shirt, hat,rain-jacket, daypack, 1 liter of water, something to eat, and of course your camera and binoculars.
This Golden Monkey experience can be combined with other activities at Mgahinga Gorilla Park such as gorilla tracking, volcano climbing, nature walks, and of course the interactive Batwa Walk with the original people of the forest.
